A blue dartwing

Blue Dartwings can be acquired by catching dragonflies. They and orange dartwings appear in roughly equal proportions hovering over water. A few seconds after being approached they will fly away and then appear to vanish, so they must be snatched quickly. The two types of dartwings share the Fortify Pickpocket alchemical effect.

Ingredients[edit]

11-12(DG) guaranteed samples can be found in 8-9(DG) different locations:

This ingredient is not in the VendorItemIngredient category that allows it to be traded by apothecary merchants. It cannot normally be bought from them, even though it should be available according to their merchandise leveled lists. It also cannot be sold to apothecary merchants; it can only be sold to general goods merchants.

The only way to make this ingredient become available from apothecary merchants is to unlock the Merchant perk (requires level 50 Speech), at which point it is an "uncommon" ingredient.

Creatures[edit]

Dragonflies spawn at 769 sites, in 138 different locations, typically near bodies of water (rivers, lakes, or ponds). Each spawning site can generate a random mix of up to 10 orange- and blue-winged dragonflies. The dragonflies are spawned between 5am and 8pm; some of the spawning sites instead generate torchbugs at night. They will fly away after a few seconds so you need to be quick to catch them.

Notes[edit]

  • Both the blue and orange dartwings have their wings on backwards.
  • Dartwings can be difficult to catch, due to their small size (making them harder to see) and speed. Using a word of a shout (such as Unrelenting Force or Drain Vitality) causes them to fall to the ground. However, if you do this over deep or swiftly moving water, it will complicate finding them afterwards.

Bugs[edit]

  • Dartwings can spawn partly under the ground, which makes them more difficult to catch. ?
